Help Message from the Fund Manager

There is no place like Colorado.  People for Colorful Colorado invests in organizations who work to preserve the natural beauty and character of our Rocky Mountain state. We invest in organizations who seek to inspire young people through the wonder of the mountains and natural world.

We also seek to invest with organizations which use partnership and innovation to advance their causes.

Help Giving Goals
In 2009 we can raise $5,000 for the nonprofits partners associated with this giving circle and build an army of 200 caring Coloradoans.  Please join our cause to protect Colorado's wilderness.
Help Beneficiaries
Colorado Open Lands

We help families achieve their dream of permanently protecting their land from development, and preserving wildlife habitat, productive farms and ranches, breathtaking scenic views, and vital streams and rivers.  In collaboration with our partners and remarkable families around Colorado, we have permanently protected more than 290,000 acres of Colorado's scenic, natural, and agricultural lands.

Environmental Learning Center (ELC)

The Environmental Learning Center at Colorado State University is a 212-acre facility located along the Cache la Poudre River in Fort Collins. Last year the ELC provided nearly 200 educational programs to 4,000 individuals from scout troops, school classrooms, college organizations and other groups in northern Colorado. In additional 18,000 visit the ELC on their own time to walk the trails, view wildlife and enjoy nature. The ELC staff consists primarily of CSU students; their experience provides valuable professional development and prepares them to become leaders in the field of conservation and environmental education.

Philanthropic Interest:
  • Conserving and Protecting Colorful Colorado: Colorado is my favorite place on earth.  It is one of a kind and it has a character which needs protection.  I travel our state every year climbing mountains and photographing with my old school 4x5 wooden field camera in the footsteps of Brad Washburn, Ansel Adams, John Muir, Enos Mills, and John Fielder.
  • Philanthropy: I believe in giving.  We all have causes we believe in and support.  We can all choose to make a difference.  You don't have to be rich - you can give $5 a month if you want, but you should give.  It adds up to a lot when we all do it.
  • Illness Distraction for Kiddos: I've been active since the day I was born.  I was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and while I am no longer a kid, I can relate to having to deal with all kinds of stuff that keeps me from having fun and enjoying my late 20s.  I can't imagine going through this at 10 years old.  Unfortunately, many kiddos do.  I believe that illness distration is a worthy cause for kids and their families.  Play centers in hospitals, field trips, and opportunities to smile more.
  • Financial Education and Literacy: Education is linked to every other issue you can think of in some way shape or form.  Learning to make good decisions with money is one of the most important life skills I can think of.  I don't think people receive enough training on how to manage their personal or family's finances.

Announcing the Winner of the American Alpine Club’s 2009 Bates Award

First, who is “Bates”? Robert Bates, a renowned explorer, alpinist, Peace Corps director, and educator, accomplished numerous first ascents in Alaska and was a member of the American expeditions to K2 in 1938 and 1953. His literary contributions describing the K2 expeditions and his life of adventure in the mountains have inspired countless young American climbers.

The AAC and the Alpine Conservation Partnership

I wanted to share this video that we put together at the American Alpine Club when I was a staff member there.  This is a great cause and you should get involved if you're interested in preserving the mountains and understand that the mountains and artic regions of the world are the bellweathers of the environmental world.
